چکیده

BACKGROUND Interleukin 31 (IL-31) is a T helper type 2 effector cytokine that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atopic and allergic diseases. IL-31 may be involved in promoting allergic inflammation and in inducing airway epithelial responses such as allergic asthma. METHODS Single-base extension analysis was used to detect the genotypes of IL-31 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and we compared the genotype and allele frequencies of the IL-31 SNPs between patients with asthma and healthy controls. RESULTS There were no significant differences in the genotype and allele frequencies of the IL-31 SNPs between patients with asthma and healthy controls. Furthermore we compared the genotype and allele frequencies of IL-31 SNPs between patients with atopic asthma, those with non-atopic asthma and healthy controls. This showed that the SNPs were not associated with the susceptibility to atopic asthma. There were no significant differences in the haplotype frequencies of IL-31 SNPs between patients with asthma and healthy controls. In patients with asthma, the IL-31 SNPs were significantly correlated with total serum levels of IgE (p=0.035). CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate that, the IL-31 SNPs may be associated with IgE production in patients with asthma.

Lack of Association between Interleukin-10 Gene Promoter Polymorphisms with HIV Susceptibility and Progression to AIDS

Background & Objective: Interleukin (IL)-10 is an important anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory cytokine. Some authors believe that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the promoter region of the IL-10 gene have been associated with susceptibility to HIV infection and progression to AIDS, but its role is not clearly defined yet. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the a...

Investigation of Chitinase3like-1 (Chiti3L1) Gene Polymorphism (rs4950928) with Susceptibility to Allergic Asthma in Iranian Northwestern Azeri Population

Background: In addition to cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of asthma, mounting evidences demonstrate that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in asthma relevant genes have a role in conferring susceptibility to the disease. CHI3L1 is secreted from macrophages, neutrophils, and airway epithelial cells through an IL-13 related mechanism and contributes to tissue ...

ارتباط پلی‌مرفیسم‌های اینترلوکین 4 (T 589C-) و اینترفرون گاما (T 874A+) با بیماری آسم

Background and Objective: Asthma is a common respiratory disease caused by acute and chronic bronchial inflammation. Clinical manifestations of the disease are closely related to genetics. IL-4 is a cytokine of TH2 lymphocytes, polymorphism in prompter region, C-589T, is associated with IL-4 production, while IFN-γ, is a cytokine of TH1, and A+874T polymorphism in interon 1 of IFN-γ is associat...

ADAM33 gene polymorphisms in Southwestern Iranian patients with asthma

Objective(s): Asthma, the most frequent chronic respiratory disease, results from a complex interaction between multiple genes and environmental factors. To date, more than 100 candidate genes and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been reported to be associated with asthma. One of the discovered genes related to asthma is ADAM33. However, the relationship between ADAM33 gene polymorph...

Background and Aims: Asthma is a complicated chronic inflammatory disease associated with pulmonary inflammation, severe immune responses of the respiratory tract, and change or destruction in the respiratory tract structure. Several factors, especially genetic and environmental factors, contribute to the pathogenesis of asthma. Interlukin (IL)-13 is considered the most important inflammatory m...
